OTIS — Sara Adaline Deines, 97, died Feb. 25, 2016, at River Bend Assisted Living in Great Bend. She was born June 25, 1918, in Stuart, Nebraska, the daughter of Jason R. and Sadie A. (Patch) Arter. Sara lived in Rock County, Nebraska, as a child and moved to Boulder, Colorado, at the age of 9. She graduated from high school in Boulder, and then attended the University of Colorado Boulder until her junior year when she met and married Herman F. Deines. They were married Sept. 22, 1938, in Cheyenne, Wyoming. They moved to Barton County and later Rush County, where they farmed for many years. Sara also worked for the Galatia Co-op for 11 ½ years and retired in 1985. Herman died Nov. 25, 1999.  
She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Galatia, and later Trinity Lutheran Church in Otis, where she worked as the church secretary from 2004 until 2014. Sara was also a 4-H leader for the Fairview Scouts 4-H Club for 14 years.
Survivors include four children, Kathy Ahlvers and husband Richard of Great Bend, Marcia Brewer and husband Lee of Edwardsville, Illinois, Vickie Sara Riedl and husband Martin of Woodward, Oklahoma, and Jim Deines and wife Marsha of Derby; 16 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sons, Herman F. “Frank” Deines and Robert Deines; a daughter, Elizabeth Ann Deines; a brother, Jason R. Arter Jr.; and a sister, Nellie O. Larsen.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday, Feb., 29, at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Galatia, with the Rev. Bruce Adamson presiding. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Galatia. Friends may call from 1-4 p.m. Sunday, with family present from 2-4 p.m. Memorials may be made to Fort Hays University Art Department or St. Paul Lutheran Church in care of Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home.
