GREAT BEND – Stephen Joseph Rychlec, 65, died June 27, 2014 at his home in Great Bend.
He was born June 30, 1948 at Great Bend, the son Joseph A. “Bud”and Bonnie (Amerine) Rychlec.
He married Colleen Ann Hammeke April 11, 1970 at Great Bend. Steve grew up in Great Bend and was a longtime resident. He lived in Phoenix, Ariz., Oberlin and Inman, before returning to Great Bend.
He worked for Stueder Contractors as an electrician. Steve had excellent mechanical skills which were self-taught. He loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, building fast cars and drag racing. Steve did a lot to help family and friends without expectations of any form of compensation. Most of all he loved his family.
Steve grew closer to the Lord as he entered his retirement years, and had more time to enjoy the simpler things of life.
He was a member of First Southern Baptist Church, Great Bend, and the NRA.
Survivors include his wife Colleen Ann Rychlec, of the home; his mother, Bonnie Rychlec, Pawnee Rock; a son, Eric A. Rychlec, Hutchinson; a daughter, Amy M. Howard, Gypsum; three sisters, Linda Dreher, Phoenix, Ariz.; Sally Rychlec, Great Bend; Teresa Sachs, Santa Fe, N.M.; two brothers, Jon Rychlec, Pawnee Rock; Blake Rychlec, Highlands Ranch, Colo.; five grandchildren, Alexis Rychlec, Jordan Howard, Connor Rychlec, Taylor Howard, & Brock Rychlec and four step-grandchildren, Tylor, Trenton, Kyndall and Zoey.
Memorial Service is scheduled at 10 a.m. Tuesday at First Southern Baptist Church in Great Bend with The Reverend Dr. Doyle Smith officiating. Interment will be at Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery.
Visitation is scheduled from 7 to 9 p.m., Monday at First Southern Baptist Church Annex, Great Bend. Memorials are requested to First Southern Baptist Church, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.
