Thomas E. Harris, 67, died Oct. 22 at his home in Great Bend. He was born Jan. 29, 1947, at Neosho, Mo., the son of Lawrence Edwin and Eula (Stites) Harris. He married Shirley Schmitt May 1, 1965 at Great Bend. A Great Bend resident since 1965, coming from Granby, Mo., he was a long-time oilfield truck driver and later owned and operated Tom Harris Trucking.
Mr. Harris was a member of Prince of Peace Parish at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church and Mid-America MOPAR Car Club, Great Bend.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley Harris, of the home; one son, James “Jim” Harris and his wife Laura of Lenexa; one daughter, Karen Milsap and her husband Todd of Great Bend; six sisters, Betty Lodson of McAllister, Okla., Marlene Bretz of Wichita, Pauline Edmonds of Neosho, Mo., Henrietta Whitman of Neosho, Mo., Carolyn Stipp of Springfield, Mo., and Ruth Poge of Canton, Minn.; and three grandchildren, Trey Milsap, Blaine Harris and Brooke Harris. He was preceded in death by brother, James Edwin Harris; sister, Alice Fleetwood; and a granddaughter, Crystal Harris.
Family rosary will be at 4 p.m., and vigil service with rosary will be at 7 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 26, at Bryant Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 2 p.m. Monday at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, with Father Don Bedore, celebrant. Burial will be in Great Bend Cemetery. Friends may call from 1-9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials are requested to Golden Belt Home Health and Hospice or Barton County Relay for Life or Prince of Peace Parish, in care of the funeral home.
