HOISINGTON — Thomas M. Hein, 69, died Sept. 18, 2013 at his home.
He was born Aug. 9, 1944 at Andale, the son of Roman Joseph and Barbara Rosen (Boor) Hein.
Thomas graduated from Andale High School and was a long-time Barton County resident. He served in the Army Nation Guard. Thomas worked for Fuller Brush for 30 years and for Stueder Contractors for five years until his retirement.
He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, St. John Knights of Columbus, where he was a five-year Grand Knight. He served as a former assistant scout master for Troop No. 149. He enjoyed woodworking, hunting, fishing, and all kinds of repair work.
On April 25, 1971, he married Cheryl Shoemaker at Andale. They later divorced. He then married Virginia Pfeifer Bentley Oct. 5, 1996 at Great Bend.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia Hein, of the home; a son, Eric Hein, Great Bend; a daughter, Christi Hein, Great Bend; five brothers, Joseph “Joe” Hein and wife Marilyn, Wichita; David Hein and wife Rose, Austin, Texas, Leonard Hein and wife Deb, Mt. Hope; Roman Hein and wife Patty, Andale; Bernard Hein and wife Betty, Andale; four sisters, Rosemary Pawloski and husband Chuck, Derby; Marilyn Guy and husband Dan, Forsyth, Mo.; Margaret Schoch and husband Kurt, Amarillo, Texas; Frieda Boehnke and husband Jim, Great Bend; a grandson: Dylan Wright, Great Bend, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and infant sister, JoAnn Hein.
Vigil service followed by a Knight of Columbus rosary will be held at 7 p.m. Friday at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Hoisington. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church with Father Anselm Eke as celebrant. Burial will follow at Hoisington Cemetery with military honors. Friends may call Friday from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home.
