ELLINWOOD — Tom Drewel, 74, passed away at his home on July 16, 2018.
He was born Feb. 24, 1944, to George and Juanita (Seymour) Drewel. He married Marie Addington on Sept. 28, 1968, at Great Bend.
A native of Missouri, he had 18 years in law enforcement in the Barton County Sheriff’s Office, Great Bend Police Department, Hoisington Police Department and was Police Chief in Claflin. Tom’s present employment was with the Larned State Hospital as a transport officer.
He was a Veteran of the Navy and held memberships at the VFW in Hoisington, American Legion and the Legion Riders of Great Bend, the Patriot Guard and Bikers of Central Kansas (BOCK). He had a love for motorcycles and especially spending time with his family. He and his wife were Mr. and Mrs. Claus for the Men’s Motorcycle Club Toy Run, for the past 40 years and passed out ornaments to surrounding hospitals for BOCK.
Survivors include, his wife, Marie of the home; son Tommy and wife Kristi Drewel, Great Bend; daughter, Anneda and husband Shawn Mossberg, Great Bend; two sisters, Carol Miller, Union, Mo.; and Arlene Miller, Franklin, Mo.; and four grandchildren, Chris Julian and significant other, Bailie Scheuerman, Melissa Julian and significant other Dustin Stiles, MacKenzie and Madison Drewel, all of Great Bend.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Tammy Drewel; and sister, Jo Jo Heidbrink.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday, July 20, 2018 at Bryant Funeral Home, with family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral service will be held at Bryant Funeral Home at 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 21, 2018, with Rev. Dick Ogle presiding. Interment will be in the Great Bend Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the American Legion of Great Bend, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.
