GREAT BEND — Tommy Max Schulz, 81, died April 8, 2015 at Arkansas Veterans Home at Fayetteville in Fayetteville, Ark. Born Feb. 16, 1934, in Chapman, he was the son of Walter Joseph and Marcella (Keegan) Schulz. On Dec. 23, 1958, he married Donna Fay Richards in Kanopolis. She died on Aug. 26, 1985. He earned his bachelor and master degrees fro Fort Hays State University. A resident of Great Bend since 1962, coming from Hays and moving to Wichita in 2005, he was an English teacher at Roosevelt Junior High and Great Bend Middle School.
Mr. Schulz was a United States Air Force veteran, serving from 1952 to 1956. He was a member of Prince of Peace Parish at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Great Bend; Knights of Columbus Council No. 7422 in Lyons; Coronado Assembly of the Fourth Degree of Columbus; American Legion of Kanopolis, GBNEA, KNEA, and NEA.
Survivors include one son, Dr. Thomas Kevin Schulz and his wife Mary of Fayetteville, Ark.; one sister, Ann Marie Soukup of Kanopolis; and two granddaughters, Olivia Fay Schulz and Victoria Andrietta Schulz. He was preceded in death by one brother, Joseph Schulz; and one sister, Mary Bedingfield.
Vigil service and Knights of Columbus Rosary will be held at 7 p.m. on Sunday at Bryant Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Great Bend. Burial will be at the Great Bend Cemetery, with military rites by the United States Air Force Honor Guard.
Visitation will be held from 1 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to St. Joseph School in Fayetteville, Ark. in care of the funeral home. Condolences may be sent and notice viewed at www.bryantfh.net
