Twila L. O’Brien

Twila L. O’Brien, age 92 years, of Great Bend, Kan., passed away on Wednesday evening, Jan. 19, 2022 at Azria Health – Great Bend. Twila was born on April 17, 1929 in rural Cheyenne County, Kan. to Walter Albert and Ella Faye (Miller) Baney. She graduated from Benkelman High School Class of 1947 at Benkelman, Neb. and was united in marriage to Daniel Dennis O’Brien on Feb. 21, 1950 at Benkelman, Neb. In addition to being a homemaker, Twila loved education, and was a teacher of Business, Realtor, Appraiser, Legal Secretary, and also was a House Director for Fraternities and Sororities.  She also loved to travel. Twila was of the Catholic faith, and longtime member of both St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church and St. Patrick Catholic Church at Prince of Peace Parish in Great Bend, Kan., and was Past President of the St. Rose Altar Society.   

Twila is survived by three sons Terence (and Patricia) O’Brien of Basehor, Kan., Kevin (and Stephanie) O’Brien of Cheney, Kan. and Aaron O’Brien of Wichita, Kan.; one daughter, Marla Anne (and Dennis) Habiger of Ellinwood, Kan.; seven grandsons Shawn, Daniel, Matthew, Patrick and Shane O’Brien, and Jason and Joshua Habiger; eight great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Daniel D. O’Brien on Jan. 22, 1979; two brothers Donald and Robert Baney; and two sisters Jane Michaelson and Idalene Fink. 

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 22, 2022 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Great Bend, Kan. with Father Terrance Klein officiating. Interment will be in the Great Bend Cemetery at Great Bend. Twila’s wishes were that there be no public viewing. Memorials are suggested to Kindred Hospice at Hutchinson, Kan. or the Dominican Sisters of Peace at Great Bend, Kan.
