ELLINWOOD — Vickie Sue (Pohlman) Tucker, age 65, was born on Nov. 25, 1957 to Iris L. (Buckbee) Pohlman and Alfred L. Pohlman in Ellinwood, Kan. and passed to the next life on March 29, 2023 in Overland Park, Kan. after a 10-month courageous battle with leukemia.
Vickie grew up in Ellinwood, graduating from Ellinwood High where she was a drum majorette and in the jazz band among other activities. She was a member of the UCC Church, often playing the organ and piano. She attended Barton CC on a tennis scholarship, then the University of Northern Colorado in Greely with a B.A. degree in nursing. She later graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a M.A. degree as a Nurse Practitioner.
Vickie worked in Wichita before moving to Overland Park, working as a nurse in many areas, including Cardiology, Critical Care, ICU and the ER. She also was a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner. She was a runner and triathlete, participating in many races including the Pikes Peak Marathon and the IRONMAN Word Championship Triathlon in Hawaii. Vickie and her husband enjoyed traveling and playing golf. She always found time to attend her nieces and nephews sporting events. Four of her nieces recently followed her footsteps into the nursing profession. Her motto, as her license plate read “LUV2SWT” (Love to Sweat) symbolized her passion in life.
