TIMKEN — Victor A. “Vic” Pechanec, 87, died Feb. 4, 2017, at Great Bend Regional Hospital. Born Nov. 5, 1929, in Great Bend, he was the son of Henry J. and Rose T. (Vsetecka) Pechanec. A lifelong resident of Rush County, he was a farmer/stockman. On Nov. 16, 1949, he married Agnes Oborny at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Timken. She preceded him in death May 5, 1987.
Mr. Pechanec was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Timken, Knights of Columbus Council 2100 in Olmitz, and Catholic Workman Branch 133. He was a former member and secretary of the Timken Community Credit Union in Timken. Through his love of flying, he became a member of the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) in Great Bend.
Survivors include, three sons, Dennis Pechanec (Kathy), of Timken, Steve Pechanec (Janet), of Otis, and Toby Pechanec of The Woodlands, Texas; three daughters, Charlene Koochel (Mark), of Albert, Pam Lichter of Great Bend, and Christy Kaus (Paul), of Salina; 19 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; two brothers, Stephen Pechanec of Timken, and Ivan Pechanec of Wichita; and his special friend, Betty Skillett of Hays. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; one daughter, Luella Garman; two grandchildren; one brother, Francis Pechanec; and one sister, Anita Pechanec.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Timken with Father Matthew Kumi, Father Ultan Murphy and Father Charles Mazouch officiating. Interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery in Timken. Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. today at the Janousek Funeral Home in LaCrosse, with the family receiving friends from 6-7 p.m. A vigil service and rosary will be held at 7 p.m. Church visitation will be held from 9:30-10:20 a.m. Wednesday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Timken, or the Timken Fire Department.
