Viola Ann Komarek 1920 - 2014

ELLINWOOD — Viola Ann Komarek died March 8 in Topeka. Born on  Jan. 6, 1920, in Kansas City, she was the daughter of Homer F. McCready and Minta M. (Pierce) McCready. In 1926, she moved with her parents to Florence. She graduated from Florence High School in 1941 (National Honor Society) and moved to Kansas City where she worked in the office at Folgers Coffee Co. On Dec. 2, 1945, she married Norman Frank Komarek of Ellinwood, in Emporia. They moved to Sterling, where they lived for 13 years, moving to Ellinwood in 1958. She worked for Ellinwood District Hospital for 18 years as a medical records clerk, retiring in 1984.  
Mrs. Komarek was a member of Immanuel UCC church where she served on the church council and as records clerk. She was a cub scout den mother for several years. Vi’s interests included being a 75-year member and Past Worthy Matron of the Queen Esther Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star.
Survivors include two sons Paul Norman Komarek (Annette) of Atchison, and Kim Kent Komarek (Diana) of Topeka; granddaughter, Katie Wallace (Casey); and great-grandson, Castle Kent Wallace. She was preceded in death by her parents; and husband.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. today at Minnis Chapel in Ellinwood with Pastor Debbie Rains presiding. Burial will follow at Lakin-Comanche District Cemetery in Ellinwood. Memorials may be given to UCC Church or Order of Eastern Star in care of the funeral home.
