ALINA — Walter H. Stewart "Stu" O’Brien, 64, of Salina, died Friday at the Kaye Pogue Hospice Center, Salina, KS.

Mr. O’Brien was born January 17, 1946 at St. Louis, M. to Walter Howard Stewart and Dorothy Jean (Ross) O’Brien III. He had worked for the Missouri Pacific Railroad which then became part of the Union Pacific Railroad for many years, retiring in 2007.

Stu as he was know by friends, loved traveling. He enjoyed friends and play cards, and enjoyed his railroad friends. He was an avid bike rider.

He is survived by his wife Jean of the home; one son, Kevin and wife Kate of Salina; mother, Dorothy Jean O’Brien of Festus, Mo.; one sister, Kathleen O’Brien of Festus, Mo.; one grandaughter, Shelby O’Brien of Salina; two step-grand daughters, Allison Gordon of Emporia, and Lindsay Gordon of Dallas, Texas.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at the St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 2000 Burr Oak Lane, Salina, with Father Frank Coady as Celebrant. Burial will be in the All Saints Catholic Cemetery, East Crawford St., Salina. A Vigil Service will be at 6:30 p.m. Monday at the Church. Visitation will be noon to 5 p.m. Monday at the Ryan Mortuary, and after 6 p.m .at the Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, the Tammy Walker Cancer Treatment Center or to the Kaye Pogue Hospice Center all of Salina.
