SALINA — Wanda C. Spencer, 95, died June 9, 2012 at the Good Samaritan Society facility in Minneapolis. Wanda was born Dec. 17, 1916, in Great Bend, and lived a fond portion of her life in Stafford county on the farm of her parents, John and Lana Tucker.
She was a detail person and spent her working life in jobs that best suited that trait. Wanda served as the Clerk of the District Court in Stafford County and later was a partner in an accounting firm in Great Bend until her move to Salina to be a part of the life of her grandson and family. Retirement did not suit her and she worked as a bookkeeper for several businesses until her retirement at age 85.
Wanda is preceded in death by a brother, Nolan Tucker.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law of Salina, Carolyn and Lugene (Gene) Peterson; a grandson and wife of Valley Center, Jason and Melissa Peterson; and four great-grandchildren also of Valley Center, Sheridan, Alexis, Chloe and Brooklynn Peterson. She is also survived by two nieces, JoLana Deamore and Pam Switzer.
Wanda was a member of Christ Cathedral in Salina and was a 77-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Until Alzheimer’s prevented her, she loved the Bible study group and served on the altar guild of the church.
Visitation will be Monday, June 11, from 4-8 p.m. at the Ryan Mortuary in Salina, where the family will receive friends from 6-7 p.m. Graveside service will be in the Fairlawn Park Cemetery, St. John, at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 12. A memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Christ Cathedral in Salina. The family suggests memorials to the Good Samaritan Society in Minneapolis, Kan., or to the Memorial Fund of the Diocese of Western Kansas, 2 Hyde Park, Hutchinson, KS, or memorials can be sent in care of Ryan Mortuary.
