Wanda Lee Converse 1931 - 2012

COUNCIL GROVE — Wanda Lee Converse, 80, longtime resident of Council Grove, passed away March 20 at St. Francis Hospital after a long illness. She was born Nov. 5, 1931, in Hoisington, to Marvin and Mary (Clift) Jones. She married Leon Converse Jr. on Feb. 11, 1978, in Council Grove.

Wanda enjoyed volunteering at the Community Thrift Store. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.

Wanda is survived by her husband Leon, of the home; son, Tom Beard and wife Nancy, of Salt Lake City, Utah; daughters Debbie (Barr) Thomas and husband Bruce, of Pensacola, Fla., and Rebecca Carpenter of Topeka; stepdaughters, Luretta Thomas and husband Jim, of White City, and Ellie Pearson and husband Steve, of Emporia; 12 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and a sister.

Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 22, at Penwell-Gabel Flint Hills Chapel, with the Rev. Larry Buss officiating. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to United Methodist Church or Junebug Cancer Foundation and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
