MOSCOW, Idaho — Wayne Dean Herrenbruck of Moscow died March 27, 2012 at Oregon Health & Science University Hospital in Portland. He was 59.
Wayne was born March 21, 1953 in Great Bend, the son of Thomas and Ethel Hitz Herrenbruck.
He grew up on the family farm near St. John and graduated from Great Bend High School in 1972. He moved to Astoria, Oregon to attend Clatsop Community College and studied forestry, earning his AA. Wayne worked in Oregon for a time and then moved to Alaska to work as a timber cruiser.
After returning to Oregon he met Karen Bushbaum and they were married in Pendleton in 1979. They moved to Moscow in 1981 for Wayne to attend the University of Idaho where he graduated in 1984 with a B.S. in Forestry. That same year he began managing Robinson’s Mobile Home Court, a position he held until 2006. Since then, he has worked in real estate; first for Hatter Creek Land Company and most recently for Moscow Realty.
Wayne was a loving family man and spending time with his family was his favorite pastime. He loved to visit with friends, play pinochle and spend time outdoors.
Wayne was an active member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Moscow. He was a longtime supporter of St. Mary’s School in Moscow and served on the school board. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, served as Grand Knight, and was a member of the Fourth Degree Assembly. He was a Boy Scout Leader and supporter of youth sports. He also enjoyed hunting, camping, shooting, traveling and photography.
Surviving are his wife, Karen, at their home; daughters, Danette and Jeremy Swam, Genesee, Idaho; and Kelly and Jason Houlihan, Boise, Idaho; his sons, Adam, Moscow, Idaho; and Bradley, Iowa City, Iowa. He also leaves his beloved grandchildren, Jason, Katelyn and Justin Swam and Ava Houlihan. Wayne is also survived by his siblings, Stanley and Bonnie Herrenbruck, Coffeyville; Galen and Pam Herrenbruck, Winfield; JoAn and Roy Doonan, Hutchinson; Charles and Nancy Herrenbruck, Pittsburg; Joy and Bob Bono, Gladstone, Mo.; Roy and Pam Herrenbruck and Janette Long, all of St. John. He is also survived by his Aunt Arlene and numerous nieces and nephews.
A vigil service is scheduled at 7 p.m. Sunday, April 1 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Moscow. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday, April 2 at the Church by Rev. Brian May and Rev. Joseph Schmidt. Burial will follow at the Moscow Cemetery. A time for fellowship and a luncheon will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic School afterward.
