OLATHE — Wayne F. Schneider, 50, died July 3, 2017, at Overland Park Regional Medical Center, Overland Park after being struck by a vehicle while riding his motorcycle. He was born Sept. 11, 1966, at Great Bend, the son of Francis L. and Lois Marie (Casey) Schneider. Mr. Schneider graduated from Great Bend High School in 1985 and attended Kansas State University, graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1992. After graduation, he worked briefly for Fuller Brush before moving to Kansas City in 1992 to work for Huhtamaki, previously known as Sealright. He later went on to earn his Masters in Mechanical Engineering.
Mr. Schneider was a charter member and former president of the Great Bend FFA Alumni Association. He was also a member of the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) and the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA). Mr. Schneider’s favorite pastimes included helping with the family farming, flying his small airplane, riding his motorcycle, snow skiing, and attending sprint car races. He also enjoyed playing with the latest new technologies such as flying drones and printing with 3D printers.
Survivors include two brothers, LaVern Schneider and his wife Elaine of Albert, and David Schneider and his wife June of Great Bend; one sister, Catherine Kaledo of Aurora, Colo., four nephews, Doug Schneider, Jason Schneider, Scott Schneider and Matt Schneider; one niece, Micca Schneider; and three great-nephews, Alec Schneider, Trey Schneider and Cade Schneider.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 1:30 p.m., Monday, July 10, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Great Bend with Father Ted Stoecklein celebrating. Burial will be in Great Bend Cemetery North. Friends may call from 1-9 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday at Bryant Funeral Home, and from noon to service time Monday at the church. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials have been established with KSU Foundation to benefit the School of Engineering, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.
