GB native appreciates services

I am writing to give some love and attention to some wonderful people and services I’ve encountered in my hometown. I was born In Great Bend in 1969 and graduated from GBHS in 1987. Although I now live in Topeka, my mother still lives in the same home in which I grew up. I visit often to see her and assist with appointments.

I’m so thankful for some of the people in Great Bend who have made life easier for her as she ages and needs more support, especially since I live three hours away.

First, I want to thank Linn Hogg and her team at Volunteers in Action/AmeriCorps Seniors. Mom has benefitted from their help with volunteer tax preparation for many years. I recently accompanied Mom when she dropped off her tax information, and Linn and Susan were so kind, patient, and helpful. If you or your parent is 50 or older and can’t afford a tax preparation service, I encourage you to contact them. They also provide free assistance with meal delivery, transportation to medical appointments, and help with Medicare questions. They can be contacted at 792-1614.

Another gem is Great Bend Coffee. One of our favorite places to eat, they also offer lunch delivery for seniors. The price is very reasonable, and Mom looks forward to her lunches six days a week. Laresa and Patty (who delivers the meals) are wonderful to work with, and I appreciate this service. If you haven’t checked out Great Bend Coffee, I encourage you to support this local downtown business and enjoy their amazing food and coffee!
