Kans for Kids doesnt pay for trips

Dear Editor,
The purpose of this letter is to correct a bit of misinformation about Kans for Kids Fighting Cancer Foundation that appeared in an article in the Tribune on July 19, 2013.
First and foremost, we appreciate Veronica Coons of the Tribune taking the time to interview and write a wonderful article about Dade Cannon, 9, and his experience with Kans for Kids as he battled leukemia.
Dade was given the opportunity to speak during Vacation Bible School at 1st United Methodist Church in Great Bend.
In the article, Dade was quoted as saying, “Kans for Kids helps kids with cancer go on trips to neat places ... Cannon said his family was able to take a trip to Disney World in Florida a year and a half after his diagnosis, thanks to the program.” In reality, Dade’s trip came from another organization called Dream Factory, not Kans for Kids.
Our organization does NOT pay for trips for the children in Barton County that we assist. Our purpose is to provide financial assistance and emotional to support to children and their families for such things as medical expenses, travel expense to and from their treatment centers, and many other things surrounding the child’s treatment.
In closing, thank you to all the wonderful folks that continue to support Kans for Kids and the children in our area who live with cancer.
Thank you to the Tribune for their continued support, as well.
