Kilby project is great addition

Dear Editor,
Thanks to the Tribune for the article in the Jan. 5 paper — Monumentally quick, Kilby construction went better and faster than hoped.
The Kilby Plaza, in front of the Barton County Courthouse, is a wonderful center piece that salutes the 2000 Nobel Prize winner, Jack Kilby.
Our community’s claim to this beautiful memorial was properly enhanced with the help of Glenn Opie’s drive and Chet Cale’s handiwork.
Few communities are blessed with a principal like Jack Kilby, and it is an extra blessing to have a leader like Glenn Opie who has the skill, drive and commitment to bring recognition to fruition with a center piece like the statue in front of the courthouse.
Also, I would venture the observation that very few localities have a sculptor like Chet Cale.
Jack Kilby helped put this community on the map! Glenn Opie and Chet Cale helped keep a place-name in focus so everybody can celebrate an extraordinary native son.

Great Bend
