Dear Editor,
With Memorial Day fast approaching I would like to say thank you to the members of the Barton County Cemetery Board for
volunteering your time and efforts to serve the citizens of Barton County. The board members are as follows: Page Lofland,
Margaret Potter, Mic Lang, John Haberman, Stan Jantz, Edward Scott, and Carrie Buhler. Thank you for all their planning and
diligence to the Veterans Memorial that is to be dedicated on Sunday the 25th of May at 2 p.m. at the Golden Belt Memorial
Cemetery. The progress of this Veterans Memorial has been a slow moving project for well over five years, but has recently come
to reality through local donations to honor veterans of all wars from this area of Barton County.
A special thank you to the two anonymous donors giving $10,000 each, donations of $500 each from the following: VFW
Post 3111, American Legion Riders Post 180, Local Dare Program, and from Larry and Kathy Schugart, $2,500 from Ike and Jackie Walters and $1,000 from Martin Morgenstern, and many other donations thru fundraisers and individuals interested in this great project.
We appreciate Chet Cale for his efforts in the design and for setting the main stone and his continued support and to Suchy Constructions donation of the labor involved in preparing the site, pouring the concrete and the finish work on the concrete slab.
Thank you to Dale Phillips and the Barton County Road and Bridge Department for their continuous efforts of keeping up  both of the County Cemetery’s.
As a final tribute this Memorial Day to all the Veterans of all the wars we say THANK YOU for your service to this great country, the United States Of America.
As a US Navy veteran and as a setting county commissioner I’ll say Praise God and Thank you all for your service!
