Dear Editor:
The City Band concert and band shell rededication on June 1 at the Barton County Courthouse Square was beautiful and I would like to thank everyone involved. The band did a wonderful job.
As band historian Joe Boley noted during the program, my father, Professor Domingo Scotti, was the City Band director when the Clayton L. Moses Memorial Band Shell was dedicated in 1927. My father wrote the “Pride of Great Bend” march for the occasion. I was not yet born, but I later saw him direct the band in 1959.
As a conductor, my father listened to every musician and would comment if someone was “off note.” I’m sure his spirt was there last week. He was probably listening to make sure they were “on note.”
Thanks again to Mr. Boley, Band Director Steven Lueth, the musicians and everyone involved. It was a lovely night and it was a fantastic concert.
Rosina Helsel
