Dear Editor,
I would like to encourage all citizens of Barton County to participate in the upcoming primary election on August 7th. It is extremely important to get involved in this election. As you drive around the community and Barton County, it is evident that the candidates have campaigned to the fullest.
Being a citizen of Barton County my entire life, I am writing in to support Mr. Don Davis who is running for Barton County Commissioner in the 3rd District. Why am I supporting this candidate? Let me tell you why. Not only is Mr. Davis my father, but he is also a stong hearted man, who has also played a very important role in my life. Don is trustworthy, honest, and has a very strong worth ethic. He is a devoted Christian who currently serves as a deacon at Community Christian Church. Last, but not least, he has been happily married for 50 years to the love of his life, Lucille (my mother). Mr. Davis has successfully raised three children who are now married and have children of their own, has eight awesome grandchildren, two who are in the U.S. Armed Services, and one precious great granddaughter.
This special man who would put his heart and soul in serving Barton County citizens has served in the United States Navy, has worked jobs in agriculture and in the oilfield, and has been an over the road truck driver for Walmart the past 16 years. In addition to this, he is a former business owner, and a Team Captain for the Kansas Motor Carrier Association. He has taught numerous high school and college students about road safety, commercial vehicles, and yearly safety as well as Hazmat Training Courses. At the current time, my father is working part time in the automotive department at Walmart.
As a hard working man his entire life, my father has passed this trait on to his three children. For those of you who know my siblings (Dawn Sisson and Jeff Davis) and I, we are all extremely motivated and very successful in our careers. While we were teenagers, we were taught to work for everything we had. If we wanted a vehicle, we had to get a job to pay for it. Thus, if we wanted to wear the named brand clothing and shoes, we had to earn it. If we wanted to attend college, we were encouraged to earn scholarships and pay our own way. As a teenager and young adult, this was extremely frustrating for me. Now, as a grown adult of three children with a Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction, I now thank him. It was a tough road, but I appreciate where it has taken me.
The candidate I am supporting enjoys working with people and the public. If elected, I know he will strive to help improve the jobs and economy of Barton County. In addition, he will also welcome any suggestions from the community to help improve the lives of Barton County citizens.
I, along with many others, will be supporting Mr. Don Davis by voting for him on August 7th. Your vote for him will be greatly appreciated. Thank you!!!!
Sincerely,
Jami Reed
