Dear Editor,
Our local school board works together to establish policies that serve to guide the day-to-day management of schools. I can’t think of a more qualified candidate for the USD 428 school board than Susan Young. She has both the knowledge gained while working in the trenches of our elementary schools and a heart that holds our community’s values.  
Susan will be student focused. She knows that student learning is the most important task of our local schools. She will target our resources to promote achievement for all students by making sure we keep a rigorous curriculum and maintain high-quality teachers. Susan understands that all children do not have the same needs and will work to make sure that our resources are effectively used to help all students achieve.
Susan will be accountable. Susan will listen to community and parents that entrust their children to our public schools. She will ask effective questions and labor to make sure that USD 428 provides needed services at a reasonable cost. From serving on committees with Susan, I have seen her go beyond just her intuition and love of children to use her knowledge of student achievement data to build successful school programs.
Decisions made by our school board will have a great long-term impact on Great Bend. I ask you to join me in supporting my friend, Susan Young, in the April election because she possesses a vision of great schools for all children in Great Bend and has the knowledge and experience to help us reach that dream.
