Dear Editor,
Mrs. Kathy Hafner, assistant principal at Great Bend Middle School, has announced her retirement at the conclusion of this school year. Mrs. Hafner was hired 40 years ago as a physical education teacher at Roosevelt Jr. High, Great Bend. It was my pleasure to have worked with Mrs. Hafner as her principal for 18 years at Roosevelt Junior High. When the two junior high schools merged in 1992, she became a class room teacher at the Great Bend Middle School. After several years she moved into her present position as assistant principal at the middle school.
Mrs. Hafner was always fair, considerate, and willing to listen, as she worked with students, parents, and fellow educators. Through all of these years, she really cared for her many students who were in her physical education classes. When she became an assistant principal, she had to increase her concern for all the middle school students and she did this.
When Mrs. Hafner became the assistant principal at the middle school, she assumed administrative leadership demanded in her new position. As several teachers have told me, Mrs. Hafner was always willing to listen to concerns from students and teachers.
Thank you Ms. Hafner for your dedication to Great Bend USD #428 students and parents. You will be missed not only at the middle school, but throughout the entire school district.
Don Learned
Great Bend
Thank you Mrs. Kathy Hafner
