Thanks for Cinco de Mayo Day

Dear Editor,
Thanks and congratulations to Roberto Hernandez and his Cinco De Mayo Committee for a wonderful Saturday fiesta for Cinco de Mayo day. The parade was on time, and the entire program went like “clock-work.”
Mayor Mike Allison gave an excellent welcoming speech, and prayers were offered by Father Don Besore, followed by the singing of the Star Spangled Banner and the Mexican national anthem. Queen Miriam was introduced and crowned and her princesses were introduced. Great Bend High School Junior Chon Chavez was introduced as the outstanding high school Hispanic student. Scholarships were awarded to three high school seniors.
Vendors had a great day, and the very diverse public enjoyed all the different food. The two bands were excellent; also, the guitar group. The singing and dancing groups ranging from Eisenhower and high school students to adults provided a very varied
entertainment.
The little children concluded the day’s entertainment by trying to break the pinatas and obtain candy.
Thanks again, Roberto, for a very well planned and exciting day for the Great Bend Mexican community and all the other guests.
Sincerely yours,
Jean Cavanaugh
