Dear Editor,
On behalf of the 4-H families of Barton County I would like to thank the Tribune for the Fair supplement before and after the Barton County Fair. It is refreshing to see reports of the positive things our youth are doing during their summer and after school hours. I would also like to thank all the sponsors of the Barton County Fair supplement because without their support, I am sure it would not have been possible.
The “learn by doing” motto that 4-H has been following for over 100 years still shines during county fair season. 4-H is definitely more than fair but the completed projects exhibited do show some amazing things accomplished by our 4-H members. The broad spectrum of projects gives kids a chance to find that special area they are interested in and excel in it.
Research shows that when youth get the type of experiences that 4-H provides, they are more resilient as teens and more successful as adults. One example of a skill learned is being able to speak in public and share a statement of belief. Several of those who spoke at the county commission meeting on behalf of Barton County Extension attributed their success to 4-H.
Again, thank you to our business partners in the community for your support at the Business appreciation breakfast, the awards presentation, the Sale of Champions and thanks to the Great Bend Tribune for reporting on a great event and a great group of kids.

Barton County 4-H Extension Agent
Thanks on behalf of 4-H families
