To the editor,

The leaders we elect make decisions that affect our daily lives.

Elections are our chance to stand up for what matters most to us and to have an impact on the issues that affect us, our communities, our families, and our future.

The reforms in this bill address issues involving:

1) Abuses of presidential power

2) Checks and balances, accountability, and transparency

3) Election integrity and security.

Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) introduced this bill (HR-5314) to Congress in Sept., 2021 and it passed the House in Dec., 2021. It was received in the Senate at that time and has since completed five roll call votes. After passing the Senate a bill goes to the President before becoming a law. Subjects of the bill include, and are not limited to:

• Prohibits presidential self-pardons.

• Suspends the statue of limitations for federal offenses committed by a sitting President or Vice President.

• Authorizes specific actions to enforce congressional subpoenas.

• Requires candidates for President and Vice President to provide copies of tax returns for the ten most recent taxable years the Federal Election Commission (FEC).

• Requires federal campaign reporting of foreign contacts and their contributions to online electioneering communications.

• Establishes a program to support states and localities transition to ranked choice voting systems.
