After years of drought, central Kansas was abundantly blessed with snow in the past week. While the moisture was appreciated, it caused snarled traffic, work schedules and school schedules for a few days.
City street crews deserve a big thank you for their tireless work this past week. They did a terrific job of cleaning the streets. Emergency personnel also deserve thanks for staying on duty during the worst of the storms and helping those in need.
Most people stayed home, snug in warm homes.
However, many kindnesses were conferred by generous residents of the area who had to get and about and keep the area functioning.
At Barton Community College, the head cook was ill, and so staff at the college prepared meals for the students who live on campus.
Neighbors scraped or snow blew sidewalks for the elderly or not so fit.
One individual offered a ride to a walker on one of the worst days.
Friends offered rides to others without a snow-ready vehicle.
Most people were patient and understanding about missed papers or delayed papers.
There are so many that gave and got out in the cold when they would have preferred to stay home in bed. If one knows one of those people, a thank you goes a long ways in expressing one’s appreciation.
This is the way communities ought to work together, and the best part of living in a small community.
