Challenges. All of us have them. And, it is easy to sit around and point fingers and blame others for our failures. It is easy to throw out exaggerated or incorrect information and hope people will listen and take up our cause because of the passion behind our words. It is easy to become caught up in distracting and destructive banter. It is easy to become a fool.
Enough is enough. There comes a time when there is no point in continuing the argument further. There is no point in continuing to belittle and discredit the work of others with half truths and lies. There is no point in continuing to bemoan how ineffectual we have been in the past. It is time to move on. It is time to put on our big boy pants and shift our efforts into building our community and not tearing it down.
Success is built upon people working together to solve problems. Working together requires mutual respect and civil treatment. This does not mean everyone has to agree. In fact civil discourse is healthy and usually results in better outcomes. But this means that everyone is willing to listen to the pros and cons of project and act in the best interest of their constituents and their community. It means you air your opinions and provide facts of reference in the public decision making venue given and not wait to share your thoughts after the fact in a venue without recourse.
It is time the Great Bend City council gets back to business. It is time we start hearing constructive voices. It is time for Great Bend to move forward…or it is time we consider cleaning our house.
