Bocephus struck back at his detractors this week and entered some new phraseology into the current debate about what America needs.
We are facing a time when we have to decide.
As Yogi Bera once said: “When you get to the fork in the road, take it.”
Well, America is at the fork and we need to move one way or the other.
Hank Williams Jr. is advocating that we take the road that leads to more personal freedom and less government.
Whether we agree with his lifestyle or not, it’s hard to argue with his sentiments about the future of our nation.
“I’ll keep the USA and ya’ll can keep the change,” is the refrain repeated in his new release “Keep the Change.”
Williams also refers to “United Socialist States of America, how do you like that name?”
He affirms his plans to “keep government out of my business.”
And he suggests turning off certain TV programming.
While it would have been more to the point at this juncture in our history if he would have advocated Americans turning off the TV in general, much of what he had to say will ring true with a lot of Americans, whether they appreciate everything about the man or not.
According to the Associated Press, the song came as a revelation of sorts to the country musician.
“‘I’ve been recording for five decades, and I knew that old over-the-fence feeling on this one,’ Williams said in an interview Monday afternoon.”
“Williams wrote the topical third verse of ‘Keep the Change’ when he woke up around 4 a.m. Friday. He borrowed a guitar once owned by George Jones to write the melody and was in a studio with a group of musicians by 4 p.m. The song was done by 5:30 and was being mastered Monday morning.”
It has been available on his website and on Youtube this week.
For those who are wondering, Williams is not lacking in stuff to keep him busy these days, according to the AP report. “Williams has already moved on. The quickness with which the new song came together has him itching to put out a new album and he’s in the early stages of planning a tour for next year. If he can find the time.”
And the rest of the nation needs to take the time to decide which road we are going to support our nation heading down.
Bigger government, or smaller?
