Phikala Anthony vs Otero

A pair of standout seasons ended with a second team All Jayhawk West selection for Phikala Anthony. The Memphis sophomore just missed a first team selection as the highest vote total on the second team. She was the lone Barton Community College Cougars to earn recognition.
Anthony led Barton in scoring and rebounding this past season. She scored 16.2 points per game and grabbed 7.4 rebounds. Those numbers were good for fourth in the West in scoring and seventh in rebounds.
Hutchinson swept the honors in the West as well as having three members earn first team selection. Blue Dragon coach Jon Ontjes was named the Coach of the Year, Kalani Purcell Most Valuable Player and Cythia Petke Freshman of the Year.
Anthony made a living at the free throw line during her career, setting single season marks this past season for free throws attempts and made in a season. Her 166 free throw makes pushed her past Barton Hall of Famer Wendy Okeson’s previous mark of 153 in 1999-00. Her total attempts (208) also surpassed the old mark by Okeson (206).
For a career Anthony came up just short of Okeson’s record of 253 made free throws. Anthony ended her career with 240.
