HUTCHINSON — For the second year in a row the Barton Community College women’s golf team will be sending four players to the NJCAA tournament in Daytona Beach, Fla.
The Lady Cougars placed four golfers in the top 10 and finished in second place at the NJCAA Region VI championship at Carey Park in Hutchinson on Monday.
“We were just two strokes behind Dodge,” Barton head coach Doug Kaiser said of his team, which finished at 725 after 36 holes. “We were just so close (to beating them) again. We were down three strokes after Day 1, so I was really proud of how the girls did.”
Chelsea Dietz led Barton with a fifth-place finish at 177.
Lindsey Wait took seventh (181), Alyssa Dickman claimed eighth (183) and Britany Axman, a Hoisington native, finished ninth (186) to each qualify for a chance to compete on May 14-17 in Florida.
With four girls qualifying, Barton will also get to compete as a team. Last year, the Lady Cougars finished in 17th place.
“Dodge City qualified four girls as well, so they will be competing as a team this year,” Kaiser said. “The girls are really fired up. I think they really want to beat Dodge this year, and I guess nationals is as good a place as any to do that.”
