The Barton men’s cross country team closed out the regular season with the Region VI Championships over the weekend at the Westar/Prairie Ridge Park Course in Hutchinson.
The Cougars placed 11th in the 16-team field. Allen County won the meet with 45 points followed by Butler with 55 in 2-team race for the title. Johnson County was third with 111.
Barton finished with 282 points, just 13 points from 10th.
A pair of Cloud County runners paced the field, led by Moses Dirane with a time of 25:16.34 over the 8K course. His teammate Thobile Mosito won a 3-way battle for second with a 26:00.72 followed by Ricardo Banuelos of Allen with a 26:04.41 and Bonyface Kiptoo of Butler in 26:06.75.
The top Cougar runner was Ignacio Calderon in 32nd with a time of 28:27.02. He was followed by Samuel Hengeli in 49th with a time of 29:10.31.
Close behind Hengeli was Corban Ogle in 54th with a time of 29:30.18 and Felix Marquez in 65th with a time of 30:21.1.
Lukas Tucker rounded out the team scoring portion for the Cougars with a 32:58.65 for 106th. Treavon Ware finished 111th in 33:53.26 and Javon Patterson in 112th in 34:27.73
Barton will wrap up the cross country season on Nov. 12 when the Cougars head to El Dorado for the NJCAA Championships.
