McPHERSON – The fall season is officially underway for the Barton men’s golf team.

The Cougars finished fourth in the 9-team field Central Kansas Classic at Turkey Creek Golf Club in McPherson. Barton finished with a 46-over par total of 886. That was just five strokes out of third place and only eight away from second.

Fellow Jayhawk school Dodge City easily won the event with a 3-over par 843 over the three rounds of golf. Barton found itself in fourth place after the first round and never budged from that spot.

The Cougars opened with a 7-over 287 the first round and closed out the first day with a 294. Barton completed its tournament Tuesday with an even 300.

Freshman Renan Laveissiere of France led the way for Barton, shooting a 2-under 68 the first round then finishing round two with a 76. He bounced back for a 72 on the final round to finish in a tie for sixth at 6-over 216.

Laveissiere was the lone Cougar to place in the top 10.

A pair of sophomores were just outside the top 10 as Great Bend’s Kelby Titus and Japan’s Ryotaro Tsuji both finished in 12th. Titus opened with a 78 before carding a 1-under 69. Titus finished with a 75 for a 12-over 222.

Tsuji was more consistent on his way to 222 with a 72-72-75.

Thailand freshman Takerngsak Chuaychoo was next for Barton, shooting a 76-80-78 for a 234 in 27th place. Adam Price of England rounded out the Cougars team with a 72-77-87 for a 237. Panupong Chuaychoo played as an individual, shooting a 254.

The Cougars will be back on the links in October for the Kansas Wesleyan Fall Invitational at the Salina Country Club. That event will be held Oct. 1 and 2.
