Barton men place third at NJCAA Indoors

PITTSBURG — Back on the podium. That is where the Barton men’s —rack and field team was this weekend at the NJCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships.
The Barton men finished third overall at the 2017 NJCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships. The Cougars were solidly in third during at the Plaster Center in Pittsburg.
Barton finished with 72.5 points for third. Iowa Central won the event with 124 while South Plains College out of Texas was runner-up with 105.5. Butler scored 55 while Central Arizona was fourth with 43.
Barton won one individual title during the championships as Sanjae Lawrence won the shot put with a throw of 57-11. That event was one of the best during for the Cougars during the event as Barton went 1-2-6.
Stevon Crooks was second at 56-6 and Ricky Nelson sixth at 54-2.75.
The Barton 4x400m relay team also won gold with a time of 3:10.45. The quartet of McKinley West, Kamarni Mighty, Samson Colbrooke, and DeAndre Jobe bested the field by more than a second.
The Cougars also placed three in the 60m dash. West took fourth in 6.69 to lead the way. Chedlin Sageese was close behind in fifth with a 6.71 while Terrance Ware finished seventh in 6.81.
It was one of two individual placings for West, who took fourth in the 200m in 21.15.
Barton had two place in the 60m hurdles, led by Jermaine Jones. Jones ran an 8.03 for fourth while Kevin Turner ran 8.26 for sixth.
Rounding out Barton individual points on the track was Jobe with an eighth place finish in the 600m in 1:20.22.
In the field, Nelson placed in two events for Barton. In addition to his sixth place finish in the shot put, Nelson took second in the weight throw with a toss of 60-11.25. Enrique Martinez was sixth at 56-1 for Barton.
A pair of jumper earned points as well for Barton. Denroc Dixon was fifth in the long jump with a leap of 24-2.25 and Alvin McCray seventh in the high jump at 6-8.75.
