The Barton men team retained its top spot in the latest NJCAA Indoor Track and Field rankings.
The Cougars have been ranked No. 1 in all three polls released this season by the United States Track and Field Association.
The Top 25 poll is based on a point total formula from actual times and distances.
Barton heads group of eight Jayhawk Conference schools ranked, matching the total from the initial poll. Last week that number fell to six conference schools.
Three of the top six are from the Jayhawk as Cloud County fell one spot to No. 4 and Coffeyville dropped two spots to No. 6. Iowa Central and South Plains (Texas) are second and third.
The Cougars lead over Iowa Central has continued to narrow, down to just 49 points this week after holding a 106-point advantage last week. In the initial poll, the Cougars led by 115 points.
Hutchinson is just outside the Top 10 at No. 12 and Garden City comes in at No. 19. The last three spots are Jayhawk schools with Colby No. 23, Cowley at No. 24 and Butler in at No. 25.
The Cougars will head to the Region VI Championships this weekend. The multi events will be held at Highland on Thursday and Friday with the main event taking place Sunday at Ahearn Field House in Manhattan.
