After surviving an overtime contest in its last outing, the Barton men’s soccer team had an easier time of it Saturday in Oklahoma.
The Cougars rolled to a 4-0 win over Northern Oklahoma-Tonkawa to stay unbeaten on the young season. Barton scored early in the contest and never looked back.
The Cougars dominated play against the Mavericks, putting 11 shots on goal and only allowing Tonkawa to get two of its 10 shots on goal.
The win improved Barton to 3-0 on the young season with wins over three non-conference foes. Two of the wins were by shutout to go along with the 4-3 overtime win over Western Texas.
Against Tonkawa, Barton scored just minutes into the contest when Tevin Rochester scored his second goal of the year 3:12 into the game. Rochester made it 1-0 on assists from Damen Marcu and Damia Viader.
That is how most of the first half stayed against the always tough Mavericks.
Barton pushed that lead to 2-0 just before half when Gabriel Arreas found the net for the fourth time this year. Arreas scored just more than three minutes before intermission.
Early in the second half, the Cougars took complete control of the game. Arreas, a sophomore from Brazil, made it 3-0 10 minutes into the second half on an assist from Mario Magana.
It took barely over one minute for the Cougars to make it 4-0. This time is was Magana scoring for the first time as a Cougar. The freshman from Emporia scored on an assist from sophomore Hiroo Kimura in the 57th minute for the final margin.
Barton will now turn its focus to its Jayhawk Conference opener Wednesday when Garden City comes to Great Bend.
The Broncbusters is currently 1-1 with a loss to Laramie (Wyom). The contest will be the Jayhawk West opener for both teams. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m.
