Barton softball back on track with sweep of Pratt

After a stretch of games that saw the Barton softball team go 1-5, losing all four to the top two teams in the Jayhawk West, the Cougars were back to their winning ways Wednesday afternoon at Cougar Fields.

After a stretch of games that saw the Barton softball team go 1-5, losing all four to the top two teams in the Jayhawk West, the Cougars were back to their winning ways Wednesday afternoon at Cougar Fields.
Barton swept Pratt in West play to stay alone in fourth place in the conference. Barton is now 9-7 in the West and 12-16 overall. The Beavers are 1-17 and 10-34.
Barton used two big innings to pick up an 11-3 win the opener the blew the Beavers out early in the second game, winning 17-2.
With a gusty wind helping the hitters, Barton hit eight home runs in the twinbill.
Barton scored six times in the third and added five more in the sixth to win the opener by run-rule.
Kat Frakes and Emma Horsch each hit a 2-run homer in the third as the Cougars built a 6-1 lead.
Kristin Storer belted a 2-run homer in the sixth then Morgan Michaelis ended the game with a 3-run shot to make it an 8-run lead.
Frakes, Michaelis, Storer and Haily Pop each had two of the Cougars 12 hits.
Horsch was solid in the circle, allowing just six hits and two earned runs to improve to 6-8 on the season.
The Cougars jumped all over the Beavers from the get-go in the second game. Barton scored nine runs in the bottom of the first and never looked back.
Barton hit three home runs in the inning, highlighted by a grand slam from Maggie Schuetz. Alexis Sharples started the inning with a lead-off homer and Frakes hit her second of the day to wind up the scoring in the inning.
Schuetz would add another homer in the second, this time a 2-run shot to make it 11-0.
The Cougars pounded out 19 hits with Frakes leading the way with four. Andreana Reynolds added three hits and three RBI and Schuetz had the big 2-homer game with six RBI.
Allison Panning gave up just five hits and two earned run to improve to 6-7 pitching.
Barton will be at Dodge City Saturday for another West twinbill. Barton swept the first series in Great Bend. Dodge is 4-10 in conference and 11-21 overall. First pitch is set for 1 pm.
