The Barton Community College softball team split with Colby Community College in Friday’s Jayhawk League softball series. Barton won the opener 10-7 and lost the nightcap 12-9 in a wild twin bill. Barton (6-8, 4-2 Jayhawk) drops Colby to 8-12, 4-4 Jayhawk. Barton plays Seward (8-8, 4-0 Jayhawk) at 1 p.m. Wednesday at home.
BARTON 10, COLBY 7 – Pitcher Brooklynn Angielski (4-4) struck out nine batters. The Cougars collected 12 hits lead by the 3-of-4 performance of Elina Bartlett including the freshman's first collegiate home run leading off the fourth frame sparking a then-game tying three-run frame.
Leslie Ramos joined Bartlett with a pair of multiple hit games, collecting two in each contest and adding a pair of stolen bases.
COLBY 12, BARTON 9 – Bartlett followed the opener going 2-of-5 in the nightcap with three more runs batted in, a pair crossing on a bases loaded single with the third capping a four-run rally as the Cougars would strand the tying run at the plate.
Barton’s Mikaila Herring and Shea Afrey drilled home runs.
Aly Lawrence (1-1) took the loss and Bartlett worked 22/3 innings as Colby delivered 15 hits.
