Barton softball tops Jayhawks schools in GPA; 10 Cougar teams with 3.0 or better

It was a successful season the diamond for the Barton softball team. A season in which the Cougars spent a lot of time ranked in the Top 10. A season that ended in the Region VI tournament at the hands of the eventually NJCAA National Champion.
The Kansas Jayhawk Conference let it be known it was a pretty good season in the classroom as well for the Cougar softball team.
In a release Tuesday, the Jayhawk Conference listed each school’s GPA per sport. Not only did the softball team lead all schools in its sport, the Cougars had six more sports finish in the top three as a total of 10 sports surpass the much sought after 3.0 mark.
The softball team finished with a 3.63 GPA, well ahead of the second highest total of 3.54 by Colby. That GPA was the highest of any Barton squad and the fourth best in the NJCAA for softball.
The next best GPA for a Barton team was turned in by the volleyball team with a 3.54. That placed them ninth overall out of 20 teams.
The women’s cross country team finished third overall with a 3.49 GPA. Both indoor and outdoor track teams for the Barton women were third as well at 3.16 respectively.
Also topping the 3.0 mark for the women’s teams were golf – second best at 3.38 and tennis at 3.31 – third best.
The other two women’s teams just missed a 3.0 average with soccer finishing at 2.95 and basketball at 2.93.
The top men’s GPA came from the men’s golf team with a 3.42 – the third best in the conference.
Baseball topped the 3.0 mark, finishing with a 3.24 good for eighth in the conference. Tennis was the third team for the men to best the 3.0 GPA at 3.11, the third best in the conference.
Men’s soccer finished with a GPA of 3.88. Men’s indoor and outdoor track teams finished with a 2.66 and a 2.61. Wrestling had a 2.65, men’s basketball had a 2.53 and men’s cross country a 2.39.
