Barton volleyball coach Phil Shoemaker submitted his resignation last week – putting the Cougars in the market for a new volleyball coach. A search has already begun to replace him.
“Phil resigned and we have already got the job posted and are trying to find new leadership for our volleyball program that has been struggling,” Barton athletic director Trevor Rolfs said. “We thank him for his efforts as we move forward.”
Shoemaker spent three seasons at the helm of the Cougars, going 30-70. His first team was 14-20, advancing to the final three teams in the region. His next two years saw Barton go 7-26 and 9-24.
“We have been struggling to compete at the conference level and we want to compete at the national level,” Rolfs said. “We want to get back to the standard that has been here for a long, long time – competing for conference championships.
“We will be looking for someone who can help us do that.”
Rolfs said there is no timetable but the sooner the better as far as he is concerned.
“We are right in the middle of the recruiting season,” Rolfs said. “We want to try and get our leader in here and in place as soon as we possibly can.”
