BARTON WOMEN 51, COFFEYVILLE 40

Barton Community College's Quezia Bertoni contributed 20 points, three steals and three assists to spark the Cougar women past No. 23 ranked Coffeyville Community College 51-40 in Wednesday's Jayhawk Conference basketball game. Barton downed Coffeyville 60-56 in last year's Region 6 championship game.

Barton's Grace John and Vera Ojenuwa each scored 10 points. Ojenuwa grabbed 14 rebounds for her sixth double/double with foul steals. Barton dominated the boards 46-33. The Cougars converted 15 offensive boards to a 6-point edge in second chance points.

Barton (10-3, 6-2) forced 15 turnovers and held Coffeyville (10-3, 5-2) to 15 of 55 shooting (27%) and 6 of 26 on 3-pointers (23%). Coffeyville's Bailey Layman scored nine points off 3 of 11 shooting. It marked Coffeyville's lowest score in 49 meetings against Barton.

Trailing by three after 11 minutes, a 9-0 run put the Cougars in front for a lead they would never relinquish. Barton held the Red Ravens to five points in the second quarter and six points in the fourth quarter. 

John hit a pair of third quarter triples and added six rebounds, three assists and two steals. Vivian Onugha grabbed 10 rebounds for double digit boards for the seventh straight game. Tatum Boettcher scored five straight points to spark a 9-0 burst in the second quarter.

Barton's women welcome North Dakota State College of Science (13-2), riding a 9-game winning streak entering Saturday's 2 p.m. game.

NOTES—Barton has won 9 of the past 11 meetings and 6-of-7 in Great Bend. Coffeyville has been held under 60 points in five straight meeting. It was Barton's third straight win in the series. Barton leads the series 22-4 in Great Bend, 35-14 overall.
