Phil Shoemaker was one of two new head coaches approved by the Barton Community College Board of Trustees on Tuesday.
Athletic director Trevor Rolfs confirmed that Kevin Kewley was hired as the head coach for the men’s soccer team, and Shoemaker will be filling the same role for the volleyball team.
Shoemaker capped 13 seasons with NCAA Division-II Alaska, where he was 132-180.
Before Alaska, he was the head coach of D-I Wichita State for 16 years.
He fills the post left vacant after the departure of Andrea Rasmussen.
Rasmussen was head coach of the Lady Cougars for one season, finishing with a 15-20 overall record, including 9-5 in Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference Western Division.
Barton finished fourth in KJCCC West standings, and was eliminated in a National Junior College Athletic Association Region VI championship match by Hutchinson in five games.
Kewley, who coached at Pratt for the last three seasons, takes over for Oliver Twelvetrees.
Twelvetrees led the Cougars to a 16-3-1 finish this past season, getting eliminated by Western Texas in the NJCAA Plains District championship game.
In seven seasons with Barton, Twelvetrees went 127-22-3, a win percentage of .836.
