Barton women beat 13th ranked Cowley; riding 4-game winning streak to Region VI
Kadin Stinson
Kadin Stinson fires a penalty kick late in the first half of Barton’s 3-2 win over 13th ranked Cowley Saturday. Stinson’s PK tied the game at 1-all then she scored 34 seconds later to give Barton 2-1 lead. The Cougars would not trail again.

So far the Barton women’s soccer season has been a season streaks. Just three of significance, actually.

After opening with a win and tie, the Cougars embarked on a 5-game winning streak. That was followed by the only losses this year – all in a row during a 3-game losing streak.

Now, as Barton heads into the post season, the Cougars are riding a 4-game winning streak and are fresh off a win over the No. 13 team in the nation, 3-2.

The win wasn’t enough to catch Cowley for the Jayhawk West title as the Cougars finished conference at 9-3-1 with 28 points. Cowley was 10-2-1 for 31 points.

Barton led most of the way against Cowley Saturday, taking the final lead with just 16 minutes to play in the match.

Dahien Cabrera put the winner in the net in the 74th minute for what would be the game-winner.

Cowley went up 1-0 26 minutes in on a Carla Ruiz goal.

That is how the game stayed until less than five minutes remained in the half.

And while Barton didn’t muster a goal those first 41 minutes, the Cougars; Kadin Stinson scored two in a matter of 34 seconds in the 42nd minute.

The first came off a penalty kick with 3:47 left in the half.

The next was off a pass from Daniela Paez. Stinson took the pass, beat the Cowley defenders and drilled it home far post with 3:11 to play for a 2-1 halftime lead.

Cowley matched Barton at 2-all 16 minutes into the second half on a Sofia Gil.

The scored stayed tied for 13 minutes.

That is when Cabrera took a long pass from Silva Cinque from the back field, slipped past a pair of defender then drove home the game-winner from just inside the 18’ line.

Now focus turns to Johnson County and the Region VI opener here today at Noon.

Johnson comes to Barton as the third seed in the East. Barton is the second seed from the West. Barton slipped by Johnson by a 3-2 score here in Great Bend back in mid April.
