The Barton Community College women’s basketball team challenges Garden City (10-6, 0-2) on its home court on Saturday night at 6.
After the Cougars bounced Dodge City 92-49, Barton (8-8, 1-2) looks to continue to improve its standing in the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference Western Division against another opponent that has yet to win a conference game. Garden City is currently eighth in the Western Division.
“It’s going to be close,” Barton head coach Keith Ferguson said. “I think it’s going to be a lot like it was against Seward and Cloud. (Garden City) has got a really good team. They’ve got a great kid inside, that was a freshman last year, and I think it is going to be tough.”
Barton, now sitting at No. 5 in the KJCCC standings, is led by Christina Caddy, who broke out a career-high 25 points against Dodge City on Wednesday, to raise her season average to 12.3 per game.
Netanya Jackson has come off the bench for the Cougars to score 11.6 points per game and lead the team with 48 rebounds. Defensively, the 6-foot-4 post player gives Barton a strong presence under the basket, with 35 blocks this season.
Ferguson said that he expects his team to be complete when they travel to Garden City, with Jara Shoemaker and Shea Shoemaker back in the line up after sitting out on Wednesday.
Alisha Fanishier is averaging 11.8 per game, and Shea Shoemaker adds 7.1 points per game.
Dionne Harris sits in third, scoring 10.4 per game.
Raven Adams has come off of the bench to score 9.3 points per game.
