Barton women roll to win; keeps conference title hopes alive
Barton Cougars blk .tif

Two meets to play. Two wins needed.
That is what the Barton women’s golf team faced heading into the play Sunday and Monday at the Mariah Hills Country Club in Dodge City.
Even more daunting was the first of those two meets was on the home course of the team they were chasing.
No problem.
The Cougars picked up a crucial win in Jayhawk Meet 5 as they rolled to a 21-stroke victory over Dodge City. Barton has now won two meets and Dodge City three. The final meet will take place on the home course of the Cougars April 15-16.
Barton finished the 27-hole event with a 514 with Dodge City second at 535.
“The girls played very well,” Coach Doug Kaiser said. “They came out and took and early lead then stayed focus and consistent the second day.”
Indeed. Barton jumped to an early lead on the opening day. Playing just nine holes the first day, Barton jumped to a 13-stroke lead on the Conquistadors.
Barton did not let off the gas the final 18 holes Monday, shooting a 341 while Dodge shot 350.
Peerada Piddon finished 5-over par for the meet to capture medalist honors. Piddon shot 36 the opening day then came back with a 76 for a 112 to easily win over teammate Leeseo Park. Park shot 37-81 for a 27-hole total of 118.
It was a ways back to third and Dodge City’s Rachanok Rahulpan who shot 43-81 for a 124.
Barton also put Lea Clubb and Mackenzie Fabrizius in the top 10. Clubb shot 52-90 for a142 and eighth place. Right behind her was Fabrizius with a 49-94 – 143.
“Lea has worked really hard and has improved so much,” Kaiser. “Her play is really helping our overall team score.”
Rounding out the Barton team was Bailey Gage who shot a 51-98 for a 149.
Also competing as individuals were Janae Champlin, Daleen Turner, and Emma Ayre. Turner finished with a 151, Champlin a 164 and Ayre a 168.
Now focus turns to StoneRidge and the final conference meet of the season. Earlier this year Barton won on its home course.
“We get to play at home with a chance to win the conference,” Coach Kaiser said. “What more could you ask for?”
