The Barton Community College women’s tennis team claimed its second win of the season on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoon when they played host to Hesston.
The Lady Cougars, 2-0, swept their competition, winning all nine matchups.
BCC’s No. 1 singles player Hanna Ukhal defeated Hesston’s Taylor Funk in two matches, 6-0 and 6-0.
“We’re getting better every day, I really like a lot of the things that I’m seeing this early in the season,” Barton head coach Lyle Stickney said. “All of our girls are doing a great job.
“I’m particularly pleased with Karisa, Ashley and Rebecca, our two, three and four singles players. They really like to complain about playing singles but not one of them has dropped a match yet.”
The No. 1 doubles team, consisting of Karisa Kaiser and Deedra Richards, topped Hesston’s Kahie Miller and Taylor Funk 9-0 to claim the victory.

Hesston, lose one match
The Barton men moved its record to 1-1 this season with a 8-1 win over Hesston on Wednesday.
The No. 1 doubles team, made up of Louis Volclair and Bernardo Coehleo, defeated David Tedone and Ryan Wengard, 9-2.
Louis Volclair also bested David Tedone as the No. 1 singles match.
“Louis is an incredible talent, his creatitivity on the court is jaw-dropping,” Stickney said. “It will be interesting as the season progresses to see how he competes with the best JUCO players in the country.”
The only match Hesston won was the No. 6 singles match, in which Luke Miller of Hesston beat Nick Wheling in three sets, losing the first 7-5, but winning the following two 6-2 and 10-6.
