Tennis season still hasn’t produced good tennis weather for the Barton men’s tennis team.
But despite cool temperatures and high winds, the Barton men rolled to an 8-1 win over Tabor College Saturday in Hillsboro.
“We’re still looking forward to a match where the temperature is greater than 50 and the wind gusts less than 25,” Coach Lyle Stickney said.
“But the men came to play. They got off to a great start, sweeping the doubles. They continued to play at a high level on the singles side and clinched the match with two more quick wins.”
The No. 1 doubles team of Marcel Miasato and Yordi Ponce had to work for a 9-7 win over Angel Miguel and Anton Sopin. All three doubles teams had to work as both the No. 2 and 3 teams won 8-5.
At No. 2, it was Miguel Valle and Jack Peoples earning the win while Thales Machado and Tinashe Muzenyi picked up the win at No. 3.
The lone loss came in a very competitive No. 1 singles, where Miasato came up short against Miguel, 6-3, 7-5.
Ponce won a battle with Sopin at No. 2, splitting the first two sets, 6-4, 4-6 before rolling to a 10-0 win for the match.
Valle, Peoples, Machado, and Muzenyi all won in straight sets from No. 3 through No. 6. Valle beat Gallagher Chavez, 6-3, 6-3 while Peoples handled Stephen Wilson, 6-3 and 6-2.
Machado earned a 6-1, 6-1 win over Billy Wiser and Muzenyi won 6-1, 6-2 over Dhiraj Akikari.
Barton will be back in action April 5 when the Cougars travel to Arkansas City to take on Cowley and New Mexico Military in a couple of dual matches.
