HESSTON — It has been nothing but Jayhawk West matches for more than a month. So stepping out of conference for a pair of matches Saturday provided the Barton volleyball team a chance to take some pressure off for one day.
The Cougars responded with a pair of easy wins.
Barton made the trip to Hesston to take on Hesston and Southeast Community College from Nebraska and left the Yost Center with two sweeps.
Barton started the morning by rolling past host Hesston, a team that has four wins this year over Jayhawk Conference schools. The Cougars defeated the Larks, 25-23, 25-19, 25-22.
The Cougars remained on the court for the next match as well, against Southeast.
The win against the Storm was just as easy with the Cougars winning 25-13, 25-22, 25-22.
Barton is now 16-13 on the season as it prepares to jump back into West play Monday.
The conference slate has just two more conference games on it, both next week. Barton will host Dodge City Monday in the final home match of the season at the Barton Gym.
It will be sophomore night at the Barton Gym against the Conquistadors. Barton is 6-8 in the West, tied for the fifth spot with Garden City. Dodge City is 4-10.
The Cougars and Garden will battle Wednesday night in Garden in what will more than likely determine that fifth seed to open the Region VI playoffs. Garden also has a match with Colby later in the week.
Barton won the first outing against both Dodge and Garden earlier this season.
The Cougars wrap up the regular season over the weekend in tournament play in Scottsbluff at the Western Nebraska Classic.
