The Barton Community College softball team put together a seventh-inning rally Monday afternoon in its opener with Pratt at Cougar Fields but came up short in a 7-4 loss.
Barton also lost the second gameof the doubleheader to the visiting Beavers, 10-0.
The Cougars lost twice last weekend at Sterling, falling 8-6 and 11-5. Barton was 1-23 overall entering mid-week games.

The Cougars dug themselves a deep hole in the opener with Pratt, trailing 4-0 after the first inning and 6-0 after the second.
Barton scored a single run in the third when Alex Rodriguez scored on a single by Abigail Olmedo.
The Cougars went to the seventh down 7-1 when they started to rally. Aleeya Ybarra started the inning with a single and Tessa Sterling followed with a double. ARod’s groundout scored Ybarra.
Back-to-back singles by Christine Macias and Olmedo produced another run to cut the lead to 7-3 with still two runners on base and just one out.
After an Anna Voss flyout, the Beavers kept Barton in the game when a Pratt error on a fly ball by Kristin Schartz kept the inning going. Macias scored on the error to make it 7-4 and bring the tying run to the plate.
But that is where the rally ended for Barton following a ground out.
Barton did not have a rally in it in game two after a big second inning by Pratt.
The Beavers used three Barton errors and four hits of their own to plate eight unearned runs in the inning.
BCC never recovered.
