One of the tasks that Barton Community College men’s head basketball coach Craig Fletchall undertook this year as being athletic director was enhancing the Cougars’ preseason schedule.
Looks like Fletchall has pulled it off.
Starting today, over the next two days, BCC’s Kirkman Athletic Center will be busy with eight games — four on each day — and not a single college junior varsity team is in it
Barton’s women, coached by Keith Ferguson,  take on Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference Eastern Division powerhouse Coffeyville tonight at 5, preceding BCC’s men against Quakerdale Prep at 7.
The matinee session pits Cloud and Independence at 1 p.m., followed by Jayhawk West team Pratt taking on Frank Phillips at 3.
“That’s one of the reasons why we do the classic,” Fletchall said. “It nice to play at home, but we get to play two quality teams back-to-back on the weekend, definitely with the (NJCAA) postseason tournament in mind.
“The other thing we’ve tried to do — men and women — this year is upgrade our teams in the classic and there aren’t any JVs. It will be a great venue to come out and watch some great basketball.”
On Saturday, the BCC women play Independence, out of the Jayhawk East, at 5 p.m., followed by Barton’s men taking on Frank Phillips at 7.
